History of Project
Mindy Maslin and Sidney Ozer, a Germantown couple, hosted 2 young adult immigrants long-term. They realized this homestay experience benefited both the guests, and them, the hosting family. Recognizing that the Philadelphia region has many young adult immigrants in need of homes and families as well as a likely population of potential families, Mindy and Sid started Welcoming Homes.
Welcoming Homes Coordinates:
- The intake of each host family and guest, including interviews, references and match preferences. When considering a guest, hosts will be informed of their immigration status and what their pathway is to a green card, social security number and work permit.
- Matching hosts and guests togethers and working, with them in setting expectations, house rules and responsibilities.
- Finding solutions, with hosts and guests to needs for: medical care, transportation, ESL, clothing, phones, job training, resumes, and furniture, to name a few, plus future needs as they arise.
Advisory Committee:
The Advisory Committee is comprised of people from various congregations and organizations who act as liaisons in helping to find hosting families and set policy for Welcoming Homes.
